Domestic Violence Law Reform

Domestic Violence is a Crime

After Luke Batty was murdered by his father at cricket practice, and his family's violent history came out, his mother, Rosie, became a magnet for victims of the long-suppressed domestic violence epidemic in Australia. She was named Australian of the Year.

Governments, federal and state, announced review boards, royal commissions and police tactical reviews into the problem.

To be fair, there has been some encouraging progress in government programs and community awareness but a lot of it has been just words. Plus ominous signs, out of a cash-strapped Canberra, that funding for women’s refuges and vital legal services is being cut.

The Justice Party wants to join with other groups to make sure there are tangible results leading to a safer community for families. Not just more words. We will fight this.
