Candidate for South Eastern Metropolitan Region
Peter has lived in Melbourne and surrounds for all his life, excepting a few years in Sydney & London.
He grew up in East Ivanhoe, went to school there at East Ivanhoe State school and in Kew (Carey Grammar) and studied at LaTrobe University. He now lives in Blairgowrie, having spent most of the past 20 years living in Bayside. He is married, with one daughter.
Peter’s working life has been spent in the media and advertising industries. Notable career positions include senior level jobs at the well-known ad agencies George Patterson and The Campaign Palace, and Radio 3AW (where he first met Derryn Hinch). He was Managing Director at Zenith Media – then the biggest media agency in Australia – from 1989 to 1999, and then ran his own business, Ballyhoo Communications, a successful media and events company, until late 2017.
He is now an independent media consultant to various businesses and part-owns an online retail business, Wine Counsel.
Peter has always held a passion for issues and politics and throughout his media career advised many business, community entities and government departments on media and marketing activities, specialising in the analysis of research and understanding people’s attitudes to issues and policies. He has always given voluntary advice on media and advertising to community organisations throughout his career and has regularly contributed to school and sporting committees.
Peter is also a sports fan – a cricket lover, mad about footy (AFL, AFLW and soccer), loves athletics, sailing and golf. He has competed in all the above sports (except AFLW!). He’s an avid reader of newspapers, books and magazines, likes quality TV drama, comedy and music of all sorts.
